Silk Scarf what??

Howdy,

Randy and I have been designing and creating a couple of silk scarf quilts in memory of our customer's mother.  At first, I admit that it was a huge challenge on how to design this piece of "art", as our customer is not your typical quilt collector.  She has beautiful items in her home, but I dare you to find anything 100% cotton, much less pieced. LOL

Our customer gathered and brought to me all her beloved mother's scarfs and I began thinking of how to create this "non-typical" quilt. My business partner and some of my friends will agree no doubt I certainly color "outside the box", but this quilt was a challenge. Her mother's scarfs seemed to gravitate to blues, browns and cream colors, with a couple or two really funky colors (purple elephants and gray dogs).. As there were so many "silk scarfs", I divided them into two stacks (brown family and semi-blue family).   I sashed together with a dark tone on tone brown mostly those browns and creams with a splash of orange/red.  There were lots of "yikes and ah's from my quilting friends as they saw it, but with Randy's "longarm magic", and upon our presentation of the finished quilt, our customer absolutely loved it..  Which indeed makes us more happy!

Yesterday, I showed her the 2nd scarf quilt (blue family)  sashed and bordered in black and she and her husband were just thrilled beyond belief..  I really think that she likes the 2nd more than the first, but had planed to give that one to her daughter in memory of her grandmother.  I do love it when a plan comes together..

It's a good day, when a customer leaves happy!  Picture on the side..leave your comments.

Keeping you in stitches,
Phyllis

Way Cool...

So today I visited a local quilt shop to pick up a yard of minke and this really nice lady was there with her husband shopping.  I never met a stranger and so we began talking about this and that.. and I gave her our 3 Quilting Sistas business card and BAM, she said "oh yes, I've read this blog"....  I was thrilled!!

Now that's way cool..

Keeping you in stitches,

Twisted Heart Quilt

On Facebook last night, I posted our Twisted Heart Quilt.. I must say, it just precious (Texas saying) and a neat twist on hearts..  I enjoyed sewing it together, however I confess when it came to cutting it back apart, this was really hard for me to do..  I stood over my cutting mat thinking.."This is crazy... I just spent half my evening putting this together.. not right, not right".  But in the end, the designer knew what they were instructing me to do..

Looking forward to tomorrow afternoon.. I'm spending it with my business partner, Randy sewing and designing some of our Spring creations.  I'm also toying with the idea of print up my own quilt patterns..  Randy says that it will be successful, but I only have so many relatives that sew and will feel "required" to purchase my patterns.. LOL
We do plan to sell patterns of the quilts we currently have on line in the near future.

On a different note, Randy and I are accepting more and more "memory quilt" requests.. This is truly a labor of love and we both enjoy being able to give back something that has deeper and long lasting memories.. Whether it be a t-shirt quilt or one made up of clothing of a loved one, I so enjoy designing and piecing.  Will leave the quilting to my business partner, Randy, she's the one with the long arm...uh, longarm quilting machine for all of you who don't quilt...

Keeping you in stitches,
Phyllis
