Silk Scarf what??

Howdy,

Randy and I have been designing and creating a couple of silk scarf quilts in memory of our customer's mother.  At first, I admit that it was a huge challenge on how to design this piece of "art", as our customer is not your typical quilt collector.  She has beautiful items in her home, but I dare you to find anything 100% cotton, much less pieced. LOL

Our customer gathered and brought to me all her beloved mother's scarfs and I began thinking of how to create this "non-typical" quilt. My business partner and some of my friends will agree no doubt I certainly color "outside the box", but this quilt was a challenge. Her mother's scarfs seemed to gravitate to blues, browns and cream colors, with a couple or two really funky colors (purple elephants and gray dogs).. As there were so many "silk scarfs", I divided them into two stacks (brown family and semi-blue family).   I sashed together with a dark tone on tone brown mostly those browns and creams with a splash of orange/red.  There were lots of "yikes and ah's from my quilting friends as they saw it, but with Randy's "longarm magic", and upon our presentation of the finished quilt, our customer absolutely loved it..  Which indeed makes us more happy!

Yesterday, I showed her the 2nd scarf quilt (blue family)  sashed and bordered in black and she and her husband were just thrilled beyond belief..  I really think that she likes the 2nd more than the first, but had planed to give that one to her daughter in memory of her grandmother.  I do love it when a plan comes together..

It's a good day, when a customer leaves happy!  Picture on the side..leave your comments.

Keeping you in stitches,
Phyllis
